The only place in the world to witness the largest Asian elephant ‘Gathering’ known to exist in the planet (June – September). Watch as these huge animals drink, play and snack on the green, lush grasses that have been exposed by the receding water. This little area, wild with life, is home for the dry season to over approximately 150 - 300 elephants that have come from all over the North Central Province of Sri Lanka. Located between Habarana and Polonnaruwa, the 8890 hectares of Minneriya National Park is an ideal tourism location in Sri Lanka. The park consists of mixed evergreen forest, scrub areas and an ancient Minneriya Tank (built in 3rd century AD by King Mahasena). During the dry season (June to September), this tank is an incredible place to observe the elephants who come to bathe and graze on the grasses as well as the huge flocks of birds (cormorants and painted storks to name but a few) that come to fish in the shallow waters.

2.30 PM - Pick up from your hotel in Minneriya and transfer to Minneriya National Park – 30 minutes drive approximately
3 PM to 6 PM – Safari game drive in Minneriya National Park
7 PM – Drop back to your hotel
